Power Rankings: Top Picks to Win The Northern Trust 2021

The Northern Trust is the first of the three FedExCup playoff events and is all set to begin on August 19th. The Liberty National Golf Course, New Jersey, is the host of the event this week. Moreover, the top 125 players from the FedExCup points table have assembled in Jersey City, New Jersey. 

It is important to note that only the top 70 players from the FedExCup points table will qualify for the BMW Championship. And then, out of those 70, only the top 30 make it to the final Tour Championship. Moreover, top players like Collin Morikawa, Dustin Johnson, and others are all competing this week. 

Meanwhile, defending champion Dustin Johnson played some unfathomable golf the previous year. He scored -30 for the event and had a victory margin of 11 strokes.

5. Xander Schauffele 

Xander Schauffele will be making a comeback for the first time after winning gold at the Tokyo Olympics 2020. He looks in great form and is in complete control of his game. Moreover, Xander has finally won an event under pressure on the back of his impressive iron play. He currently ranks 13th on the FedExCup points table and is safe enough to get into the next event.

4. Jordan Spieth

Jordan Spieth is one of the best when it comes to controlling the game on and around the greens. He has finally gotten back in his original form as he currently ranks 2nd on the FedExCup points table. Spieth has improved his game exponentially this season. He’s also a major favorite to win the Tour Championship as well, this season.  

3. Dustin Johnson

Dustin Johnson, the defending champion of Northern Trust, will be determined to retain the trophy. Though he isn’t in the best of form like he was last year, a player of Dustin’s caliber needs just one good shot to get his game back on track. He currently ranks 17th and will be hoping to make a move at least in the top 10 after this week.

2. Jon Rahm

Jon Rahm will be making a coming back after testing positive for COVID-19 for the second time. However, after missing out on the Olympics, Rahm will be determined to perform well in the Northern Trust. Moreover, Rahm has been having an exceptional season this year with a Major championship win and 12 top 10 finishes on the PGA Tour.

The Open Championship winner Collin Morikawa has been exceptional and is the top pick to win this week. The impeccable iron play of Morikawa could come in handy this week at Liberty National. Furthermore, Morikawa has two wins and eight top-10 finishes this season and would be hoping for another strong finish this week.
