The US Open has always had intimidating golf courses, and this year is no exception. The roughs are thick and daunting, while the greens will most probably be undulating with plenty of breaks. So a player has to be at his best with all his clubs, specifically with his irons. Since the greens are undulating and surrounded by thick grass, the approach shot becomes imperative, as one poor approach shot can create a disaster for a player.

So keeping all these things in mind, here are the top 5 players who can tackle the course and emerge as champions.

4. Xander Schauffele – Schauffele has been in the mix for a long time now, and his performance in the last couple of years has just kept getting better. Even though he had a disappointing PGA Championship, he finished T11 at the Memorial. He has gained +0.74 with the approach and +0.77 putting strokes in this season so far, and this course might suit his style of game.

3. Brooks Koepka – Brooks Koepka always brings in his best game in the majors. Koepka has already won four major championships, and the hunt for the fifth has begun. He hasn’t missed a single cut in majors in his career so far. He has five top 10 finishes and three championships in majors since 2018. So it will be a mistake if one doesn’t consider him as a title contender.

2. Bryson DeChambeau – DeChambeau ranks as one of the top contenders to lift the trophy. The defending champion can blast his way through any course with his power game.
