No athlete makes the journey to the Olympics alone; they need all the love and support from their families and loved ones. It’s their family which provides them with all the motivation and strength to keep going. During the Beijing Winter Olympics 2022, an athlete has done something unique to stay connected to her family.

Elana Meyers Taylor, the American bobsledder, has her son Nico’s sticker pasted on her shoes, a reminder of who’s waiting for her at home and why she needs to give her best.

Bobsledder Elana Meyer’s shoes are special

Meyers is one of the most experienced American bobsledders; the 37-year-old has been competing since 2007. This is her 4th appearance at the Olympics.

A World Champion, Meyers did her country proud by winning the silver. She won the medal at the mono bob event at the Winter Olympics 2022.

All through the event, there was one little person who was cheering her on. That was none other than Nico, Meyer’s little son. Meyers was spotted wearing a pair of shoes that had a cartoon figure of her son Nico.

The shoes, which were white in color, had a clear cartoon picture of the little Nico. In it, he is wearing a blue Team USA attire, with his hands up in the air, cheering his mother on. She also dedicated her win to her little son.

“This one’s for you Nico,” posted Elana on Instagram.

Meyer’s little son has actually accompanied her to the Olympics along with his father. Her husband, Nic Taylor, is also an American bobsledder.

However, Meyer’s journey in Beijing hasn’t been easy at all. She tested positive for Covid after arriving in China and was in isolation.

Soon after she landed in Beijing, Meyers tested positive for Covid. She was immediately isolated from her family and kept in a hotel. Meyers has opened up about how hard isolation was.

“Isolation was rough. Definitely hasn’t been the easiest road but I’m out and working to get ready to take on the world,” posted Meyers.

Fortunately, the athlete tested negative in time and was cleared for completion. She returned with a bang and went ahead to grab the silver medal for her country and her family.
