Ahead of the season opener at the LA Coliseum in February, NASCAR has announced a concert by Pitbull. Armando Christian Perez, or better known by his stage name, Pitbull, is one of the most recognized and successful icons in modern-day music.

After the four heat races and two qualifying races, the field of the 23 car main event will be set. Pitbull will perform an hour before the main event is scheduled to begin. The concert will take place at 2 PM local time, and the green flag will be waved at 3 pm.

NASCAR’s vice president of marketing services said, “Pitbull transcends cultures and generations with his positive, upbeat performances and his humanitarian work away from the stage and studio.”

“We’re excited that he’s providing his star power to this historic day for our sport.”

Pitbull also expressed his excitement and honor to be performing in the opening race. He said, “This is history in the making to be part of this special Los Angeles Coliseum NASCAR event.”

“It’s an honor to integrate culture, music, and NASCAR racing as the universal language to unite new audiences around the world.”

‘Mr. Worldwide’ is no stranger to NASCAR. In 2020, Pitbull was announced as a team partner to the Trackhouse Racing team.

Which musicians have headlined concerts in NASCAR before?

In last season’s opener at Daytona International Speedway, country music star Luke Combs performed at a pre-race concert. And in the second race at Daytona, another country music star, Chris Lane performed at the Coke Zero Sugar 400.

Kristin Chenoweth was brought in to sing the National Anthem before the last race in Phoenix in November. In the same race, Dierks Bentley also performed.

One can see why NASCAR is bringing in a mainstream music icon at the historic venue. In recent years, country musicians have performed before or during race weekends.

But Pitbull will attract a bigger viewership, a bigger fanbase and will hence increase the overall charisma of the sport at a time when the sport needs some of its appeal back.
