Ghost of Tsushima is already a fan favorite on PlayStation 4. The 13th Century Japan-inspired game by Sucker Punch has come out with flying colors amongst critics and players alike. Be it the gameplay, the background music, or the intense story, Ghost of Tsushima has won hearts all over.

In fact, the game has done so well that it currently stands as the 5th best-selling game of 2020.

Sucker Punch seems to have no intention of backing down now that their IP is breaking records. This Fall, they will introduce a free online Co-Op mode in the game. Ghost of Tsushima: Legends will be free to download for PS4 owners. However, they will require an active PlayStation 5 Plus membership to play.

Ghost of Tsushima Legends coming to PlayStation 4 for free

In the PlayStation blog announcing the news, Darren Bridges, Senior Game Designer at Sucker Punch Productions, gave us an insight of what to expect from the new mode.

“Today I am very excited to reveal Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, a new online cooperative multiplayer mode that will come as a free download for Ghost of Tsushima owners on PS4 later this year.”

He further explained that Ghost of Tsushima Legends will be a completely new experience. It will not focus on Jin, the protagonist of the single-player campaign. Instead, Legends will introduce 4 new characters. These warriors will be “built up as legends in stories told by the people of Tsushima.”

The single-player campaign focussed on an open-world experience where players immersed themselves in Jin’s story around the picturesque countryside of Japan. The multiplayer, however, will not follow the same theme.

Legends will be “haunting and fantastical”, revolving around locations and enemies inspired by Japanese folklore and mythology. The free co-op will focus on “cooperative combat and action.”

The blog also mentioned 4 character classes that players can choose from, namely the Samurai, Hunter, Ronin, or Assassin. Each character class will come with different sets of abilities. Players can play the multiplayer in pairs of two or squads of four.

The two-player mode will focus on story missions and synchronized gameplay. The four-member teams, on the other hand, will engage in wave-based fights against enemies. Furthermore, it will also feature supernatural enemies.

Some other plans were also revealed in the blog post. Sucker Punch will introduce a mode called Raid once Legends is underway. Raid will be a 4 player mode that takes place in an entirely different realm.

Further details regarding character classes and customization will be released some time before the Legends launch.
