The PlayStation 5 Showcase took a magical turn when Sony revealed the new Harry Potter game, ‘Hogwarts Legacy’. The much-anticipated open-world role-playing game will come out in 2021. Developed by Disney Infinity Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy is a tale that will take players back to the 18th century.

The iconic fantasy franchise has already transcended all boundaries, and it will now also hit the gaming world like a storm.

Speculations and rumors about a new Harry Potter game saw the light back in 2018-2019. The game will tell the tale of a time almost eighty years before Gellert Grindelwald.

Developers reveal the vision behind the game

Head of Story at Avalanche, Adrian Ropp discussed the vision behind the game. He said, “The Portkey Games label gave us a unique opportunity to return to Hogwarts during a different era. We are always asking ourselves how we can draw from the rich library of characters, creatures, and themes – and imagine how those details would influence the school more than a century before Harry Potter’s arrival. Who was the headmaster? What challenges did students face? What influenced their society before Tom Riddle, before Newt Scamander? I like to say that what we are giving fans is something familiar in a way they have never seen.”

The game is set in the 1800s, an age where the Forbidden Forest was haunted by the most evil spawns. This was when Dementors frequently attacked Muggles and wizards alike, and Hogsmeade was as peaceful as ever.

The story is definitely going to revolve around the triumph of good over evil. A new level of realism has been unlocked thanks to the extensive visual enhancements provided by PlayStation 5. The Dual Sense Controller will show just how good and responsive it is with every spell that is cast.

No one can doubt the impact a saga like Harry Potter has had over different generations. This will definitely coalesce gamers and fans of all ages with wizarding world’s compelling story and the mysteries of Hogwarts that are yet to be revealed. 

Sony’s plan to attract Harry Potter fans is spot on. The trailer spoke of “an ancient knowledge, long gone from this world” and this sentence alone will be enough to arrest the imagination and bring out the inner Auror in players. Hogwarts Legacy is thus set to unlock the much-fabled past of the Harry Potter universe.
