Pokemon Go Community Blasts Developers Niantic for Banning Legit Accounts in Recent Ban Wave
Follow Us
Pokemon Go fans have a lot of reasons to be angry at the developers at Niantic. Recently, the developers implemented a massive ban wave to protect the game from spoofers and players using third party software. The developers have done this over the years after facing a lot of issues from hackers and cheaters.
However, this ban wave caused the suspensions of a lot of players who didn’t cheat at all. These false positive cases have caused players to lose accounts which have a lot of Pokemon and items they have collected over the years. Additionally, this becomes a major problem, as it takes a long while for them to appeal for these suspensions.

Pokemon Go suspending legit accounts during ban waves
Recently, a Redditor explained his woes about receiving a suspension from Niantic. The Reddit post on r/TheSliphRoad mentioned the player’s cause for getting banned from the game. The player stated that he received a 30 day suspension during a recent ban wave last month. Along with that, the post explained the cause for the suspension to be spoofing for using iOS 12.
The suspension ended last month, and it seemed like everything will be alright. But, a week later the account received a permanent ban from Niantic. Many players replied on the thread with their experiences of facing similar issues like this. Along with that, they noted that they might never get to play with the suspended accounts again as it takes months of appealing with the developers to remove the suspension.

Niantic and the long history of false positives
Niantic has implemented tons of ban waves over the years to remove cheaters and hackers for spoofing. However, these ban waves have also flagged normal users inadvertently. Back in 2019, the developers accidentally suspended some players using Xiaomi phones after the game flagged them for using their phone’s GameTurbo feature. Similarly, in 2018, the community faced a similar issue of false positives during a mass suspension before the arrival of trading in Pokemon Go.

It seems like Niantic will have to give a lot of answers to its community over this issue. The most recent ban wave has even caused the suspension of the game’s sponsored content creator in Spieletrend. So it’s just a matter of time before the developers fix this issue to save face. However, the community is still unhappy about having to face ban problems all the time, and they want Niantic to get their act together.
