It has been a long time since the game Mafia made any news. In fact, even the twitter handle of the title was silent since August 2018. However, on May 10 the account posted a single word, sending its fans into a frenzy. Now, the speculation is rife about a possible new entry in the video game franchise.

Mafia is a truly well-loved game that has been around since 2002. That is when the first title came out, giving rise to comparisons to GTA. The successful and critically acclaimed game was followed by an 8 year-long wait for Mafia II. The latest installment in the franchise came in 2016 with Mafia III.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the series to continue, however, like we mentioned before there was no news since 2018. All that changed in 2020, and we are not talking about the May 10 tweet that simply said ‘Family.’

While many will be hoping for a new game, chances are it’s to do with the remastering of Mafia II and Mafia III.

Earlier this year, news leaked that The Game Rating and Administration Committee of Korea and the Taiwan Digital Game Rating Committee had given ratings to the previous two entries in the franchise.

Back in 2018, the studio behind Mafia III, Hangar 13 let go of a significant part of its staff. The statement released by the owners said this decision was necessary to its “long-term development plans.”
Apparently, this was possible only if they aligned their resources properly. Sadly, without a full-force in place for the past couple of years, it’s highly unlikely Hangar 13 could’ve developed an entirely new game. So prepare to make do with remastered editions of the second and third series.

In all honesty, though, that is not so bad either. Both games were an absolute joy. Enhancements to the game for the current gaming rigs are sure to make these games even better now.
