Joe Rogan‘s $200m podcast has fans and followers buzzing with praise and intrigue. Recently, he broke into tears, admitting that he had never anticipated such an overwhelming response from the community. Adding yet another chapter to the antics of the Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan has turned many heads – all thanks to a thought-provoking question. What’s more – the 55-year-old names some of the UFC greats he considers ‘specialists’ in their domain.

Joe Rogan is himself a ‘specialist’ – the veteran boasts black belts in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Taekwondo, along with extensive knowledge in Muay Thai and boxing as well. Therefore, it is natural for him to make any such remarks.

The UFC commentator recently sat down with Straw-weight contender Gillian Robertson. Their discussion revolved around all things MMA – yet the highlight was Rogan’s remark on the existence of a ‘complete’ MMA fighter. Rogan pondered an intriguing question: Will there ever be a perfect MMA fighter? But why did Rogan suddenly jump into such fictional fantasies about ‘perfect’ fighters? Let’s find out!

Still space for ‘specialists’ like Adesanya and Pereira

In episode #140 of the JRE MMA Show, Joe sat down with Gillian Robertson to discuss the current developments in MMA. While on the topic, Robertson praised her trainer – Din Thomas, for his innovative approach to MMA.

She even lauded Din’s efforts to transform the sport – from a mere combination of kickboxing, jiujitsu, and wrestling – to a true, refined mixed martial arts discipline, saying, “I feel like – honestly, Din, obviously I work with him – but, he’s one of the best in trying to innovate. And that’s why I appreciate his mind so much…”

Rogan echoed ‘The Savage’s sentiment, praising Din’s insightful contributions to their shows. He asserted that even in the ever-evolving landscape of mixed martial arts, there is still room for ‘specialists‘. Citing UFC greats like Anderson Silva, and Israel Adesanya, Rogan established their striking prowess – and why they’re some of the best.

He explained, “…he[Din] always points out something that I probably missed, and when you’re watching these high level people that are coming up right now – there is still room for the ‘specialists’.”

Rogan even added a unique remark on MMA fights. He claimed that there was a problem with all MMA bouts – “they all start standing up.” What he meant was not entirely clear, but evidently, Rogan realized the challenges posed by starting every fight in a ‘standing’ position.

Furthering his stance, he spoke about how facing ‘specialists’ like Alex Pereira, in a ‘standing’ position was like putting oneself in a ‘world of danger’. He reasoned that these ‘specialists’ excel in their chosen aspect of the game – ‘that they can get through.’ The UFC commentator labeled ‘Izzy’ as a ‘specialist’ as well, retorting, “… ‘cause Israel is a striking ‘specialist’ too!’ But these compliments were just the tip of the iceberg. The mind-boggling question was yet to unveil itself!

Joe Rogan and his take on a ‘complete’ MMA fighter

Just after praising ‘Izzy’ and Pereira, Rogan raised an intriguing question. With Gillian on the receiving end, he laid out a rather controversial comparison between MMA fighters and pro kickboxers.

Elaborating on the topic, he asked, “But will there be an MMA fighter that is complete everywhere to the point where they can stand with a world champion kickboxer – is that a real thing?”

Almost instantly, Rogan answers his own question with another query – what if there are only a few ‘freaks’ like Izzy, Pereira, and Silva who can go toe-to-toe with a kickboxing world champ? Rogan does seem to have a valid point though. With their precision striking and prowess, the trio surely stands out as the most eligible contenders to compete with such relentless kickboxers.

Talking about the struggles of kickboxing, he added, “It seems like in order to be a world-champion kickboxer, you have to really dedicate yourself only to striking.”

For a moment there, it seemed as if Joe was speaking more from a personal perspective. But as long as fighters like Izzy and Pereira exist, we as fans can still count on some electrifying bouts and some bizarre upsets. But whether we’ll see a ‘complete’ MMA fighter or not – only time will tell. What do you think? Do you have any contenders for the title of the ‘complete’ fighter?
