Russian tennis player Daniil Medvedev was involved in a dramatic match against a familiar opponent in Alexander Bublik at the National Bank Open. In the end, the match was won by the Russian player in three tight-fought sets. There was a rain interruption during the match, following which fortunes turned in Daniil’s favor.

Interestingly, the talking point about the match between Daniil Medvedev and Alexander Bublik was during a point when the Russian accidentally smashed the ball on the court and caught Bublik in no-man’s-land.

However, the ball hit Bublik’s racquet and went back into play on Medvedev’s side. Eventually, the Russian smashed the ball for the second time and ended the point.

Ironically, the point was handed over to Alexander, as Daniil apologized to him for the point before. The rule says one cannot communicate during the point, but only after it is completed. On hearing the verdict of the point, Daniil lost his cool and had a brief exchange with the chair umpire.

His outburst got reactions from members of the tennis community. Coach Patrick Mouratoglou commented, “I personally prefer when you are verbal 😉.” Following him, Victoria Azarenka commented, “😂 I mean the point is insane.” In the end, it was Jessie Pegula who commented, “👽”

The big Russian is seed no. 1 at the National Bank Open 2021. He has always enjoyed playing on the hardcourts. In the past, he has been the finalist at the US Open. It will be interesting to see how he performs for the remainder of the season.
