Difference in loading times and resolution between the Xbox Series X/S and the PS5

As expected, the loading times on the next-gen consoles are lightning fast:

  • PS5-  7.86 seconds
  • Xbox Series X- 7.96 seconds
  • Xbox Series S-  8.43 seconds

The Xbox Series X and the PS5 could easily run the game at 3840x2160p, but the Xbox Series S limits the resolution to 3072x1728p. Regardless, the resolution does not significantly affect the gaming experience on the Series S. Apart from higher shadows on the Series X, the game looks very similar on all the consoles.

Interestingly, the 3072x1728p resolution is also the maximum resolution reached by the previous-gen Xbox One X.

Frame drop in the next-gen consoles

Apparently, there was no considerable frame drop in either of the consoles while running Rainbow Six Siege at 60 FPS. Having said that, a specific bomb-planting animation compelled them to drop the FPS minimally.

The Xbox Series X and the PS5 dropped the FPS to 49, and 55, respectively. On the flip side, Microsoft’s cheaper next-gen console lowered down the FPS to 45 for the same animation.

Apart from these minor differences in FPS and resolution, all the consoles performed similarly in terms of rendering shadows, reflections, and draw distance.

Based on these comparisons, it is hard to declare a winner between the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. While Microsoft’s next-gen console managed to display better shadows, Sony’s console maintained a more stable FPS. Considering its $299 price, the Xbox Series S also works exceptionally well.
