R&A to allow 32,000 fans a day at The Open Championship
St George’s Golf Club is all set to host its 15th Open Championship. The tournament will be played from July 15-18, and the R&A recently announced that it will allow upto 32,000 spectators in a statement.
“Following the UK Government’s announcement to delay the planned easing of restrictions, we are now actively working with the government and public health authorities, including those in Kent, in the next phase of the Events Research Programme, which will enable a number of events to take place with higher capacities than the current Step 3 guidance,” an excerpt from the statement reads.

This will certainly excite fans all over England. Well, some of them would be willing to travel from the USA to Europe just for the sake of The Open Championship. 32,000 fans is a lot, considering the current situation.
The R&A will initially e-mail all existing ticket holders starting today, and start making arrangements for The Open Championship. Since there was no tournament in 2020, Irishman and 2019 winner Shane Lowry will be the defending champion this year.
