Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer Will Be Missed a Lot at US Open 2020, Says Novak Djokovic

Novak Djokovic is settling comfortably in New York after a long ride from Europe. After a long sudden break, tennis resumes and slowly crawls back to normalcy. Djokovic denied his stay at the USTA provided accommodation. Instead, he has been nestling in a rented home nearby.

Novak Djokovic will be looking forward to his 4th US Open title. With both Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer absent from action, he is the favorite to clinch the title. In 61 Grand Slam competitions, this is the first time he is going in without his major opponents.

The King of Clay – Nadal wants to focus on the French Open. As a result, he opted out of the US Open where he won in 2019. Roger Federer underwent two surgeries on his knee. Therefore, for him to resume tennis in 2020 is a tough call.

Federer and Nadal are the ones who have delivered quality tennis for a long time now. Djokovic feels the presence of Nadal and Federer adds to the ambiance of a match.

“It is strange because these two guys are the legends of our sport and with or without crowds, they are going to be missed a lot,” Djokovic said.

The Serbian however does not wish to believe his run in the US Open would be smooth. It’s true the absence of some of the biggest names would be disappointing. However, it does not mean the US Open lost its credibility and significance.

Djokovic was in prolific form this season before activities stopped due to the pandemic crisis. The break was different for different players. However, it wasn’t a cakewalk at all for the Serbian. He was in the news for some wrong reasons.

Organizing a tour and then breaking the parameters set in order to combat the spread of coronavirus resulted in multiple COVID-19 cases. Djokovic himself was found to be positive. His statements regarding the usage of vaccines were misinterpreted and created quite a fuss. Keeping aside the follies of the past Djokovic is eyeing his 18th title in New York.
