The ATP Tour recently came out with a grueling schedule where there is going to be an event almost every week. This made people wonder whether players might skip some events. Well, Rafael Nadal is not going to be skipping the Mutua Madrid Open as his participation has been confirmed.
Rafael Nadal Is Playing Madrid
In a recent tweet that was translated by Google, Feliciano Lopez, who is the tournament director of the Mutua Madrid Open confirmed that Rafael Nadal would be playing the event. In the tweet he said,
“I talked to my friend Rafael Nadal and he has confirmed his participation in Madrid next September! We wait for you as always with open arms in the Magic Box.”

Many would have expected this as the Madrid Open is being played in Rafa’s home. He has already won the title a record 5-times and he will be looking to add to this collection when the event begins in September. And that is something that all of his fans will be hoping for.
While it is certainly great that Rafa is playing the Madrid Open, it does raise some questions. The biggest question that will be on people’s minds is – will he be playing the US Open?
This has been a question that fans have been asking for a while. The US Open and The French Open are going to be played in the same month. And Rafa’s decision to take part in the Mutua Madrid Open might signal that he is going to skip the US Open for the French Open. Moreover, the Madrid Open begins a day after the US Open which creates more doubt over Rafa’s participation at the Grand Slam event in New York.
He himself has not decided on whether to play both these events. His uncle Toni Nadal has also said that he will be playing one or the other. Everyone will be waiting to hear his decision and hopefully, he will not skip any event.
