Rafael Nadal Destroyed By Fabio Fognini in Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters 2019

The ‘King of Clay’, Rafael Nadal has been shattered on the Court Rainier III of Monaco as the Spaniard crashes out from the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters 2019 6-4, 6-2. Rafael Nadal vs Fabio Fognini encounter gave an unanticipated outcome and Fognini becomes the fourth person to beat Nadal in Monte-Carlo. 

The Italian, Fabio Fognini began by concluding Nadal’s 25 set-winning streak in the Monte Carlo Masters as he seized the opening set 6-4. Fognini broke Rafael Nadal in the opening game to which the Spaniard retaliated.

The breezy ambiance in Monte-Carlo was obstructing Rafael Nadal to play his game and in the middle of the point, a towel blew into Fognini’s court and the chair umpire refused to replay the point. After being broken to love, Fognini broke him back at 2-3. The Italian broke Nadal to love to hinder his set-winning streak and took a 5-4 lead.

Rafael Nadal was bageled in the Hamburg2007 final against Roger Federer and Fabio Fognini was all set to bagel him out again by capturing three straight breaks. However, the Spaniard saved himself from getting bageled as he broke Fognini’s serve while he was serving for a spot in the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters 2019 final.

Later, Nadal could survive for two more games as the Italian’s dominance did not allow the Spaniard to go into the final. With this loss, the ‘King of Clay’ remains title-less in the tennis season 2019 and his 12th title in Monte-Carlo is under a hold.  

Fognini played some rollercoaster matches in Monte-Carlo, he was down a set and 1-4 against Andrey Rublev in round one and then pulled off his opening round victory. He is hasn’t won a match against the Frenchman, Gilles Simon in his career. Simon gave in a walkover in the second round and Fognini is now into the finals of Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters 2019 by defeating the 11-time Monte-Carlo champion on his favourite surface.

The 2015 U.S. Open champion, Flavia Pennetta who retired from tennis right after her U.S. Open glory supported her husband, Fabio Fognini all these years with his tennis and aided him to reach the Maters 1000 Series final this year.
