Rafael Nadal Gets Honoured by Spanish Civil Guard

World No.1 Rafael Nadal receives the Silver Cross on the merit of the Civil Guard for his recent collaboration with the Armed Institute to promote the National Interuniversity League of Challenges in Cyberspace.
The 19-time Grand Slam champion was not able to attend the Civil Guard celebration held in Palma on October 11, for what he has now received the distinction. The Civil Guard was celebrating in honour of their patron the Virgin del Pilar. In the celebration, the Virgen del Pilar, the Benemérita decorated Nadal with the silver cross.

The Mallorcan emphasised during his speech that it is a “true honour” to receive this recognition. He also commended the great work that the Civil Guard does every day. “When we see you, citizens feel safer and better accompanied,” Nadal added.

On the other hand, the deputy operational director of the Armed Institute – Lieutenant General Laurentino Ceña Coro, underlined the “selfless support” of the tennis star in the promotion of this project. According to reports, the promotional message recorded by Nadal reached more than 200,000 people. This further made it possible for more than a thousand young people to enrol in the cyber league.

Lieutenant General Laurentino Ceña Coro concluded: “The Silver Cross recognizes his (Nadal) brilliant work as a cyber league ambassador. Coro further praised the Spaniard for playing ‘exceptionally’ in promoting the Cyber league.
Capturing the youth talent
It was the first National Interuniversity League of Challenges in Cyberspace, to capture youth talent and reward it. The competition took place between the months of September and November. The promotional video for this project was provided by the Spanish raging bull.
