On Saturday World Number one Rafael Nadal took three hours and 12 minutes to defeat Stefanos Tsitsipas in Abu Dhabi’s final match. The Spaniard was delighted to conclude is 2019 season ‘in the best possible way’ however he is still not contented with his form of the Australian Summer in January 2020.
Nadal to work on his shortcomings
For the preparations of ATP Cup and Australian Open 2020, Nadal will be meticulously working on his strategies and playing style over the next few days.

“Obviously, winning is important for motivation, but we can’t go crazy. There are things that I have to improve for the ATP Cup and obviously for the Australian Open. Now I will take a few days off and start training for the Australian tour that will begin next week with the ATP Cup,” Rafael Nadal told PuntoDeBreak.

Rafa’s triumphant run in 2019
It was Nadal’s fifth victory at Mubadala Tennis Championships. After concluding the season as the World Number one tennis player, Nadal extended his tennis season by being victorious in Madrid at Davis Cup 2019. As an icing on the cake, the Spaniard added an exhibition title in his bag in Abu Dhabi, UAE.

“It means a lot to me to be able to win again in Abu Dhabi, a tournament that I have already won five times,” Nadal said. “With this triumph, I close in the best possible way this 2019. It is always a pleasure to come and play here. Every year I have one more year and you never know what will happen. Hopefully, in future editions, I can be 100% physically and can be here again.”

During the hard court tournaments this year Nadal dealt with injuries in the knee (in Indian Wells) and abdomen (in Paris). Besides those hard-court turmoils, this year he was successful in defending his first-ever hard-court title at Rogers Cup in Montreal. Later in New York, he lifted up a Grand Slam title after playing a mentally and physically taxing final against Daniil Medvedev.

Season 2020’s commencement
19-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal will in tandem with compatriot Roberto Bautista Agut for the ATP Cup. The tournament is scheduled from January 3 to 12, 2020 and then he will fly to Melbourne for the first major tournament of the year.
