Rafael Nadal Predicts Canada as Davis Cup Winners for the Next Two Years

Spain scored a comprehensive 2-0 victory over the first time finalist Canada to clinch their sixth title at Davis Cup 2019 on Sunday. However, Spain’s grandee, Rafael Nadal predicts that Canada will almost be unbeatable in the next two years.

World No.1 Rafael Nadal helped his country to grab the trophy with a 6-3, 7-6 (7) victory over Denis Shapovalov after saving a set point in the second set in the second singles rubber.

Canada was playing in their first-ever final in the 119-year-old prestigious tournament. However, with the likes of Denis Shapovalov and Felix Auger-Aliassime, who are aged 20 and 19 respectively, the Davis Cup prospects for team Canada looks promising.

“The Canadian team is amazing,” Rafael Nadal admitted. “They are amazing today, and they’re going to be one of the teams that are going to be almost unbeatable in the next couple of years. They have a very strong team in all surfaces, so a lot of credit to all of them.”

Nadal further praised Denis Shapovalov in the post-match interview and said: “Denis is special. He has a lot of things that you can’t practice – you have it, or you don’t have it, and he has it.”

Nadal has been unbeatable this week as the 33-year-old won eight out of eight matches, which included five singles and three doubles matches. Nadal also continued his winning streak at the Davis Cup as he extended his unbeaten run to 29 matches – the longest undefeated run in the history of the tournament.

However, all five members of the Spanish Davis Cup 2019 squad, which includes Rafael Nadal, Roberto Bautista Agut, Feliciano Lopez, Pablo Carreno Busta, and Marcel Granollers – took to the court to defeat Croatia, Russia, Argentina, Great Britain, and Canada in their course to the title and played a role in Spain’s success.
