Rafael Nadal Says he is Not Sure of Davis Cup 2019 Participation Anymore

World No.1 Rafael Nadal is still in doubt for the next week’s Davis Cup Finals 2019 in Madrid after a disappointing start to the ATP World Tour Finals 2019 on Monday.

Rafael Nadal, who has never won an ATP Finals title, fell short of Alexander Zverev as he got the better of the Spaniard, defeating him in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in their first round-robin match of the Andre Agassi group.

Earlier, Rafael Nadal had pulled out of the Rolex Paris Masters 2019 semifinals due to an abdominal injury but he recovered well to participate at the ATP World Tour Finals 2019. However, the Mallorcan seems to be unsure about the Davis Cup Finals 2019, which is scheduled to start from 18th November and will conclude on 24th November.

The 19-time Grand Slam champion was asked in the post-match press conference at the ATP World Tour Finals 2019 if he can potentially play up to seven matches from here to the end of Davis Cup Finals 2019.

Nadal suggested that he cannot confirm his participation at the Davis Cup Finals 2019 but he hopes to be healthy but he explained that he will accept his fate for the revamped Davis Cup 2019.

“I don’t know. I can’t give you a clear answer on this. I hope so if it will be so good, otherwise, we will accept it. My determination is out of the question,” the 33-year-old replied.

The Davis Cup Finals 2019 will take place at the Caja Magica stadium in Madrid, where 18 nations will compete for the first time in one city, over one week, in a bid to win the prestigious trophy.

These 18 countries have been divided into six groups of three teams. The winners of the six groups and two best second-placed teams will advance to the knockout phase of the event.

The hosts and five-time champion Spain has been drawn with the defending champions and the second seed Croatia and Russia in Group B of the Davis Cup Finals 2019.
