Of late many spectators and fans around the world, have voiced the similar opinion that tennis has become less creative over the course of time and more monotonous in nature. Rafael Nadal supported the claim by saying that the creativity had dropped out of the game.

“Ilie Nastase was fantastic. I liked the tennis of that era because they played thinking more and it was less about the bum. There was a little bit more magic”, said Nadal. “Talent and tactics were more important than now. That lacks in tennis”, he continued. “On clay-courts you can still build points, but it became almost impossible on grass and hard. It’s becoming too fast now.”

Rafael Nadal in particular spoke about the serve, saying that it was getting more and more difficult to break serves nowadays. “I do not have a specific idea in my mind, but at some point, you should care about the serve”, said Rafael Nadal. “Players are getting bigger and the serve becomes even faster”, he continued. “If in the next years you will not find a good solution, I am afraid that in the future sports will be only about power. And it could be dangerous.”

Nadal also spoke about how injuries have plagued the sport, and solely blamed the scheduling of the ATP board for it. He suggested that the rankings must be decide over a longer period of time so that players have more time to rest between tournaments. “I support a ranking based on two-year results and not 52 weeks. This is the best way to protect players from injuries”, said Nadal. “I have been thinking about it for years.”

Nadal has withdrawn from the ATP Paris Masters 1000, and is expected to feature now at the ATP world tour finals.
