Rafael Nadal Supports Feliciano Lopez Amid Hardships

French Open 2019 champion, Rafael Nadal praised his compatriot, Feliciano Lopez, amid match-fixing allegations on him. Rafael Nadal complemented Feliciano Lopez in an interview ahead of the Wimbledon Championships 2019, for his performance on the grass court.

Feliciano Lopez was alleged to be involved in a match-fixing scandal with his partner Marc Lopez for losing their first-round match at Wimbledon Championships 2017 against the Australian partners John-Patrick Smith and Matt Reid in four sets.

However, the world no. 2, Rafael Nadal has come out to support for Lopez as he applauded his performance at the Fiver-Tree Championships, at the Queen’s Club, last week.

Rafael Nadal praised his compatriot friend Feliciano Lopez for his all-around performance at the Queen’s Club Championships, amid hardships. “Feli is always a candidate to do important things on grass, he has been playing well on grass for many years and when he is well he is one of the players that can be considered a specialist,” he said.

Rafael Nadal revealed that he watches his semifinals and finals matches at the Queen’s Club and was delighted to see him conquering the singles and doubles title at an important time of his career.

“Very happy for him for this magical week he has had at Queen’s. I have been watching his last matches the semis and final, and I am delighted and very happy about his victory, obtained at a time when he needed it,” the 18-time grand slam champion said.

Feliciano Lopez swept through the Fiver-Tree Championships, last week as he lifted the singles and doubles trophy in the midst of the ongoing match-fixing allegations on him. The Spaniard defeated Giles Simon 6-4, 6-7, 7-6 in the finals of the men’s singles event.

Felicia no Lopez also conquered the doubles title partnering with Andy Murray. Andy Murray played his first tournament after recovering from the hip surgery and Lopez helped him win the title after they defeated Joe Salisbury and Rajeev Ram in the finals.
