West Indies cricketers are well-known for smashing almighty sixes, if players like Chris Gayle, Andre Russell and Kieron Pollard are any proof. However, it seems that they have a worthy successor, right in their own backyard, and his name is Rakheem Cornwall.

During a Regional Super 50 match between the Guyana Jaguars and the Leeward Islands Hurricanes, something incredible occurred. West Indies player Rakheem Cornwall went on a rampage and severely punished the opposing bowlers.

Cornwall devastated the bowlers by raining down 10 massive sixes in a single innings. Now, the 140 kg giant will be playing against India in a two-Test series, beginning on August 22 at the Sir Viv Richards stadium in Antigua.

In 55 First Class games, he has amassed 260 wickets and 2224 runs at an average of 24 while predominantly batting at the number seven position. He has also taken 17 five-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket hauls in the longest format of the game.

In July 2016, he was selected to play for West Indies when the Indian Team toured the nation. He repaid the faith by finishing as the top-scorer in the first innings with 41, before snagging 5 wickets in India’s innings.

A year later, he faced England in their tour, scoring 59 runs in a 123-run partnership. At the time, the Windies were floundering at 55-5  and he steadied the ship to reach 233. He then grabbed another wicket in an economical bowling spell, though his efforts went in vain.

In the same year, he was included in the Cricket Board President’s XI against Pakistan in a warm-up game. In a Regional Four Day Competition game versus Guyana in April 2017, he captained the Leeward Islands in the absence of Kieran Powell, who was playing for the West Indies Test side. He finished the competition as the joint third-highest wicket-taker, with the most for his team.

In August 2019, he was named in the West Indies’ Test squad for their series against India.
