

Though Tyson Fury is a monster inside the ring, his persona is contrary to his beastly nature outside it. Tyson Fury joined two Lancaster Bulldogs wheelchair basketball team members as they wheelchaired along for 7 miles.
The world heavyweight boxing champion, for a long time now, has associated himself with the Lancaster Bulldogs wheelchair basketball team. Fury is the ambassador of the team and has shown his support this year by providing them this season’s kit. Fury also attends several of their games and makes his support felt from the sidelines.
On August 9, Tyson Fury joined two team members, Andrew Hartley and Shaun Gash, to discuss mental health issues. Andrew is the chair of the Lancaster Bulldogs, and Shaun is a committee member and junior coach. Both of them have been playing basketball for over 20 years now.

Both Andrew and Shaun are paralyzed from the chest down because of two separate car accidents that occurred over 25 years ago. The team is where these two met and have been friends ever since.

Tyson Fury opens up on mental health issues
Andrew said, “The bulldogs are proud to have Tyson as their ambassador and he has been able to support the bulldogs with the new kit this season. He’s also been to many games supporting on the sidelines. He has also been known to turn up to some training sessions and join in with the training session.”
Tyson Fury and the gang pushed from the former VVV health club site to The Battery and back. On the way, they even got a few races in to determine who could push the wheelchair the fastest!

The trio also discussed the impact of physical activity on one’s mental health. Fury said, “It’s okay not to be okay, and it’s good to talk about the issues you are dealing with.”

It is great to see people of influence taking time out of their life to show their active support to their community. Tyson Fury is a great example of this and is doing his bit to encourage and charge them on!
