The French Open has seen Ukrainian Elina Svitolina play some incredible tennis. She has won almost every one of her matches in straight sets and can go really far at the event.

On the other hand, her boyfriend Gael Monfils has not been playing too well. He was knocked out in the first round, which was disappointing since he is an entertaining player. Svitolina certainly wanted him to do well, and she is now playing for him. In a recent interview, she said, “I’m thinking I’m playing for both of us. I know how much he loves to compete here in Paris and how much he loves to play in front of big crowds. Unfortunately this year it’s a bit different. So it’s really sad that he couldn’t play his best”.

Elina Svitolina looking to score

Monfils lost his opportunity to go far at Roland Garros, but Elina Svitolina has not. She is in the quarter-finals which she has reached on two other occasions. However, she has never reached the semi-finals at the Parisian Slam and she will be looking to change that tomorrow.

If she does achieve this, it would be great for the Ukrainian, but she will not want to stop there. She has never won a Grand Slam before and now is her best opportunity to do so.

Many of the top seeds have already fallen at the French Open and now, the field is now open for other players to steal the prize. Elina could be the one who does that, and Monfils is certainly hoping that she will.
