In a shocking revelation, it came out that Washington Redskins quarterback Alex Smith, who has been trying to heal from a horrific leg injury suffered in November last year, went through as many as 17 surgeries on his right leg.

It has been 11 months since Smith broke the fibula and tibia in his right leg against the Houston Texans, and he hasn’t been seen much publicly. Earlier this year, he was seen talking in an interview with the Fox Sports, where he said that the first four months were extremely tough.

“The last three months have definitely been life-changing – in a sense of, I’ve been able to start driving, I can work out, I’m off crutches. The first four months were really, really hard,” he had said in June. “Just to be in a wheelchair for as long as I was. When you have independence and then lose it. … That was the hardest part.”

Earlier this month, Smith, 35 now, admitted of wanting to play again.

“The older you get, you realize how precious these situations are; that it’s not going to last forever, and trying to make the most of it,” he said. “You only have so many years left, and to have this challenge set out in front of me. I mean, how often do you get a challenge like that to overcome? And for me to take it on and not worry about anything else … I still feel like I’m young at heart and got a lot left ahead of me. I want to take that on.”

After such an injury, it is indeed a challenge for him to make a comeback at this age. The challenge gets bigger when you consider the latest revelation that he underwent 17 surgeries on his leg.

The Washington Times reported that, Smith made the revelation talking at an event consisting of an invited audience, which let out a collective “gasp” on hearing Smith.
