The only Grand Slam to not have a roof, Roland Garros has already suffered a huge loss as heavy rain washed out play at the clay-court Grand Slam for the first time in 16 years. There could be more possible future delays on the way due to further heavy rain forecast in Paris, and the tournament is just not prepared.

The rain interruptions throughout the tournament has caused a lot of disarray in the past days not only to the players but also the whole staff that works behind to make the matches a success. But this time on Monday, the washout left the French tennis federation having to refund around 30,000 ticket holders.  The tournament director, Guy Forget, a former player and Davis Cup winner,  highlighted that France has been lagging further behind the other three majors.

“It is very frustrating but it is proof that the roof is a necessity and that we have to do it,” Forget said. “We cannot be like this for many more years. We hope to have the roof by 2020. People have to realize that nobody can stop the process. The world is moving fast — we were talking about the roof 15 years ago.”

As the scheduling is in a clutter, players like Novak Djokovic might end up playing his last-16 tie, quarter-final and semi-final on three consecutive days. The frustration can be seen from the tennis fans as well, many who took to twitter for the same.
