Ritu Phogat Dominates on ONE FC Debut, Knocks Out Nam Hee Kim In One Round

The Indian sensation has arrived in the world of Mixed Martial Arts as Ritu Phogat wins her debut fight against Korea’s Nam Hee Kim.

In this atom weight bout of ONE FC, Ritu Phogat finishes her opponent in just 3 and a half minutes. The fight was never competitive as Phogat used her elite wrestling skills to take Nam Hee Kim. Phogat showed very rudimentary yet effective striking against that complimented her chain wrestling. The third time she took down Nam Hee Kim, she showed good ground and pound. The referee had seen enough as he stopped the fight at 3 minutes 30 seconds of round1.

This victory by Phogat defies the notion of most of the sports personals of India involved in sports such as wrestling, or boxing. At the age of 25, the peak of her wrestling career she chooses MMA over wrestling, something that has not been done by some of the elite combat sports athletes in India.

Ritu Phogat is determined to be the first woman champion in MMA as she has mentioned before that :

“I made the decision to jump into this with my full heart and will. My goal is to become the first Indian woman to win a mixed martial arts World Championship. I believe I’m in a great position to represent my country and I want to inspire as many women as I can. It’s an honor,”

Ritu Phogat has passed her first test with flying colors. However, as she moves up the ladder, the competition will just get tougher. One more thing has to considered that apart from ONE FC there are a few more prime organizations such as UFC and INVICTA where Phogat can test herself against some of the best MMA women fighters, however, that’s too far into the future.
