Spanish tennis player Roberto Bautista Agut recently revealed his top three sports people list, and the exclusive club includes Michael Jordan. Jordon is accompanied by countrymen Sergio Ramos and rival Rafael Nadal.
Among the tennis players, Bautista Agut isn’t the first one to rate basketball legend Michael Jordan highly. Many of his competitors like Roger Federer and Nick Kyrgios have said a lot about Michael Jordan.
Roger Federer in an earlier interview had placed Jordon as his inspiration alongside tennis greats, Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg. Federer had said:
“He was more of a hero for me growing up like Boris Becker and Stefan Edberg were. He was one of those iconic idols for me that I looked up to… Jordan was different because I looked up to him and he was so smooth. Everything about him was just easy-going, relaxed, and in control. I like that about him.”
Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios is an avid basketball fan, and even he had a lot of say about Jordon. Kyrgios hailed Jordon for bringing basketball and NBA to the forefront and said, “What [Michael Jordan] did for the sport, what that ‘Dream Team’ did – It put NBA on the map globally and made people actually take note of how cool basketball is. I think what Jordan has done for the sport is insane,”
The other two athletes that Bautista Agut named were soccer player Sergio Ramos and Rafael Nadal. Sergio Ramos. Ramos captains the Spain National Team as well as the Spanish soccer club, Real Madrid. In a career that has spanned over 17 years, Ramos has accumulated 25 trophies for both club and country.
Bautista Agut has a special connection with Rafa Nadal. The two were part of the victorious 2019 Davis Cup team. They both participated as senior members and guided Spain towards the Davis Cup triumph.
