

Roger Federer continued his perfect start to 2019, as he overcame the American Frances Tiafoe, in his singles rubber tie of Switzerland vs USA, at the Hopman Cup. Despite being shaky in the the first set, the Swiss took advantage of Tiafoe’s mistakes to wrap up the match in straight sets 6-4 6-1 at the RAC Arena.
It looked to be quite even up until 4-4 in the first set. However, Roger Federer managed to reap his rewards after Tiafoe seemed to loose his focus and concentration and lost the next seven games on a trot, to gift Roger Federer the victory in 57 minutes.

The victory gave Switzerland a 1-0 lead in their tie against the United States.
Serena Williams faced off against Belinda Bencic, in the second singles rubber. Bencic took the first set, after Serena made a horde of unforced errors, and looked frustrated with her game, as she struggled to find her rhythm. However, she came alive in the second set to take it 6-4. Meanwhile, Belinda Bencic hung in there, and started to serve really well, to stay with Williams.

But it was Serena Williams who held to an all important break, and served out the match in emphatic fashion, to level up the tie 1-1. The mixed doubles, that has been anticipated all around the world, will decide the winner of the tie.
The US, who lost to Greece on Monday, need to win their tie against Switzerland to keep their Hopman Cup title hopes alive.
