It’s generally said of Roger Federer that when his feet are going well, his tennis is not far short of divine.

Watching him move into his shots with languid grace and poise over the years, Federer fans have wondered what it would take to be able to throw their heads back, close their eyes and listen to the rustle of red dust under his feet.

Aptly surmising his the champion’s footwork as “Dancing on clouds and floating above the sand,” Tennis Channel has dropped a clip on its official Twitter page which stays on his feet and picks up the unadulterated sound as they move on the clay at Roland-Garros.

A viral clip has picked up the sound of Roger Federer’s feet on clay

The clip, which appears to be from Federer’s opening-round win over Denis Istomin of Uzbekistan, is music for the ears as the soft rustling sound of his feet on clay fills one’s senses.

And yes, as the post says, “…you’ll want headphones for this.”

The footage follows Federer’s feet as they leap into a serve and move back and forth close to the baseline before cutting across to the net like Swiss knife through butter for the putaway shot.

And, all through the clip, the only sounds are of the rustle of feet on red soil and the ball as it goes off the handle and moves back and forth.

The sounds grow on your senses and make you want to plug your headphones on and listen over and over again.

An early break in the opening set, as the Uzbek struggled with double faults, helped settle Federer‘s nerves and there was no looking back from there as the Swiss produced vintage tennis to generous applause from the crowd.
