Roger Federer Doesn’t Want His Children To Take Up Professional Tennis

With the elite tennis players arriving at Flushing Meadows for the US major and most of them giving their pre-tournament press conferences and interviews. In one of the interviews, the 20-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer was asked about his children’s plans regarding professional tennis.

Surprisingly, the Swiss legend is reluctant about introducing his kids to professional tennis. Roger Federer is acquainted with the efforts, struggles, and sacrifices which are involved in becoming a professional tennis player and the everyday things which an athlete goes through.

He is skeptical about his twin daughters picking up a racquet. Nevertheless, he expects one of his boys to hit the ATP circuit and the maestro wants all his kids to practice sport.

“Does it sound bad if I say, I hope not,” Roger Federer said when he was asked about his kids’ future in tennis. “I don’t want to spend another 20-30 years on tour. It’s so selfish, but, I don’t think the girls will, maybe the boys, maybe one of them. Who knows? But I have doubts I know how hard it is to make it, you know. So we’ll see how it goes, but I’ll support them with anything. And I’d want them to do sports because I think it’s really good for them.”

Roger Federer wants to continue with professional tennis as long as his body and fitness support him to carry on with the sport. “I love playing and I will never stop as long as the body will allow me to. I love it you know, so I love playing tennis it’s that simple,” Federer said.

He considers the ATP circuit to be an extension of his family. Besides his parents, wife, and kids, he is well-connected with the professional tennis track and its the paramount part of his life.

World Number three, Roger Federer will be opening against a qualifier, Sumit Nagal from India at US Open 2019. Nagal will be playing his first-ever Grand Slam match on Monday, and he is it delighted to play the first-ever major match of his career against the god of tennis, Federer in the Arthur Ashe Stadium.
