

Twenty times Grand Slam champion Roger Federer advice the next-generation players to be positive and give their best efforts in the training sessions and during their match.
In an exclusive chat with Sally Nugent at the BBC Breakfast during the ongoing ATP World Tour Finals 2019, Roger Federer explained that the young players should be able to accept their defeat and try to give everything that they possibly have. However, the 38-year-old also revealed that he also used to struggle with this during his early times on the ATP Tour.

“Always when you leave an event, everyone has lost their match except one. You can see it as a very negative sport and it can eat you up. But what you can control is to give your best effort in practice, you try your best in the match and have a good time,” the Basel native said.
He further added: “Maybe the other guy is better. Being able to accept that but also being able to say did I give everything I possibly could have. I struggled with this early on”

Roger Federer is all set to face the next-generation star and debutant Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals of the ATP World Tour Finals 2019 on Saturday. The Swiss maestro is the only veteran left at the year-end event in London among the last four players with – Dominic Thiem, Stefanos Tsitsipas and defending champion Alexander Zverev.

Federer, who is eyeing to clinch a record seventh title at the 2019 ATP Finals, went 2-1 in round-robin matches and finished second in the Bjorn Borg group. He fell to Dominic Thiem in his first match, 7-5, 7-5.

However, the Swiss star then defeated Matteo Berrettini, 7-6 (2), 6-3, before ousting Novak Djokovic on Thursday, 6-4, 6-3, in a battle where only the winner would qualify for the semifinals. It is also the 16th semifinal appearance in 17 years at the ATP Finals for the 38-year-old.
