

Five-time US Open champion Roger Federer opened his US Open 2019 campaign against the Indian qualifier, Sumit Nagal. In an interview with his apparel sponsor Uniqlo, Federer also expressed his love for India.

Federer has visited India thrice before in 2006, 2014 and 2015. He visited India for the first time around Christmas of 2006 to the tsunami-struck Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu.
The Swiss maestro made a visit as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador in the aftermath of the devastating 2004 tsunami, to oversee relief efforts, winning the hearts and minds of Indians.

Eight years later in 2014, Roger Federer once again made an Indian sojourn to New Delhi for participating at the International Premier Tennis League.
Talking about India and people in India, Roger Federer said in an interview with Uniqlo, “I love India. I enjoy going there, to visit and also to play. It’s a vibrant country. So many people getting together. To me, the Indian audience is passionate, energetic and full of life.”

Roger Federer further spoke about his favorite apparel on the court. The 20-time Grand Slam champion suggested that an outfit become special when he wins a big tournament and plays well in it.
The Swiss said, “I think it’s actually the mix of it all, trying to make a nice outfit that works in conditions that can be anything on the tennis court. And then when you play good in it, you feel good in it and if you do win a big tournament, it becomes an iconic outfit.”

The 38-year-old revealed that the shirt is the most important part of his outfit. “But of course, for me, everything started with the headband and then, of course, the shirt, maybe is the most relevant and most important piece of an outfit,” Federer added.
Roger Federer further divulged his preferred outfit, outside the court. He continued, “My favorite apparel probably would be my jeans at the moment and a simple tee. You know it always works.”
