After his comfortable 6-2, 6-3 victory against Richard Gasquet in his first match at Mutua Madrid Open 2019, Roger Federer is contented to be back on the clay surface. In the pre-quarters, the Swiss will take on the Frenchman, Gael Monfils.

The Mutua Madrid Open 2019 draw prophesies a ‘Federer vs Nadal’ final and Rafael Nadal takes on the new era contender, Felix Auger-Aliassime in his opening round match in Madrid.

The 37-year-old, Roger Federer will be elated to reach the finals and play his long-time rival Rafael Nadal over there.“Yeah, that means I’m in the finals,” Roger Federer said. “And I didn’t have many chances to beat him the last three years on clay, so years go by quickly. Sure I remember back to the finals here in Madrid as one of my good matches on clay, no doubt about it”, the Swiss reminisced.

World Number three, Roger Federer will be delighted with the opportunity to play Rafa on clay. With the Swiss tennis ace trouncing the Spaniard clay master in their past six meetings, Federer once again urges to test his tennis skills against him on his preferred surface.

“I think he was pretty tired as well. I played solid. Yeah, of course, I would love to play on clay against him again, even though I know it’s a tough challenge and all that. But again it would be nice to have played him at the beginning of his the career on clay and also at the very end and see how it all plays out,” Roger Federer continued.

After missing three terre-battue seasons, Roger Federer would have certainly regretted if he wouldn’t have made his presence on clay this year. “And if I said I don’t want to play him on clay, I think then I would have made a mistake to be on the clay in the first place because he is the measuring stick for all us player,” he added.
