Ten years after the inception of the Shanghai Masters, Roger Federer’s father flys to the city of Shanghai for the first time. He is pleading him to play in the year 2020 as Robert Federer (Federer’s father) is enjoying his premiere visit to the Chinese metropolis. “My father told me, ‘Can you please play next year so I can come back again?’ Because he’s having such a great time,” Roger Federer said.

His mother, Lynette Federer visited in 2002 and 2005 and this is her third trip to the city with 24 million people.“They’re having a good time. They are sightseeing. So this was the first time my dad has seen the centre court and the site. Very impressed, very excited. And I’m happy that they’re here.” Federer said.

World Number three, Roger Federer will be playing an exhibition event in Tokyo next week and his parents will be accompanying him there as well. “They are also going to travel with me to Tokyo next Monday. They have never been to Japan, my parents. That should also be an exciting trip. And they have just come from Singapore where my sister was, so they are on an Asia tour. They are having a good time,” the Basel native added.

“I enjoy it a lot,” Federer hailed about Shanghai. “It’s so very different from where I come from. I have lived in many different places in Switzerland and then traveled extensively. But this is pretty special, the way this city and this country is set up and everything.”

On Tuesday, the Swiss adept held a 6-2, 7-6(5) victory against Albert Ramos-Vinolas. He avenged his 2015 Shanghai slump at the hands of the Spaniard.

Meanwhile, on the other courts, Andy Murray was knocked out from the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019  as the World Number 12, Fabio Fognini battled past against the former champion in Shanghai.

The ninth seed, Gael Monfils was defeated by the Polish tennis player, Hubert Hurkacz. Andrey Rublev defeated the 12 seed and the reigning finalist in Shanghai, Borna Coric. 

On Wednesday, the top-seed, Novak Djokovic will be taking on the new era contender, Denis Shapovalov and Stefanos Tsitsipas and Felix Auger-Aliassime will be locking their horns in the round-of-32 of Shanghai Masters.
