The most important debate in tennis right now is the GOAT debate. For a long time, the debate was between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer but now Novak Djokovic has joined the party. Each person has their own opinion about who is the best. Let’s see who Stan Wawrinka thinks is the GOAT.

Stan Wawrinka Believes Roger Federer Is The Best

Stan Wawrinka recently had a chat with Chris Evert where they talked about many things. During this talk, Chris Evert asked him who he thinks is the best tennis player ever. Stan replied,

“Roger Federer is the best player ever so far. He’s been winning everything, beating everybody. He’s better than the other players and better than me. His game is a completely different style. He puts you under pressure all the time, he’s so aggressive, changes the pace a lot.”

Stan Wawrinka went on to say that because Roger Federer varies his shots, he finds it difficult to play against him. Even though Stan Wawrinka complimented Roger Federer, he did not forget about Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. He said,

“I have difficulties to return the ball well against Rafa because of the spin he hits and the lefty serve. Novak is the one that I like to play the most, even if I’ve lost to him many times.  Even though I have beaten both of them they are still better than me.”

While Stan does not think he is at the level of the ‘Big 3’, he is the only one apart from Andy Murray who has challenged them. He has managed to beat all of them at the big stages which is something the NextGen players have failed to do.

In recent years, Stan Wawrinka has not played his best tennis due to injuries but he is making a comeback. When the ATP tour returns from its suspension in July, I am sure we will see Stan winning some big titles like he used to.
