Roger Federer, through his foundation, has donated a further one million USD to help the families affected by the novel coronavirus in Africa.

Federer had already made a contribution to help the vulnerable families in his native Switzerland. He has now shown the same generosity once again by reaching out to help the needy in Africa.

“We must come together to help families in need” – Roger Federer

The outbreak of coronavirus has caused serious problems in many countries around the world. Millions of people are struggling, both in terms of health and finance. Unfortunately, as has always been the case, in times of crisis, the poor hurt the most. The underprivileged are struggling to make ends meet.

The Roger Federer Foundation released a statement regarding Roger’s donation.

“Now more than ever we must come together to help families in need,” Federer wrote on Twitter.

Federer is always motivated to help in Africa as the continent has a special place in the Swiss Maestro’s heart. Africa is his mother’s home country and he used to visit the land during his childhood. As a child, he witnessed the poverty firsthand in Africa.

The Roger Federer Foundation supports educational projects located in the region of southern Africa and Switzerland. According to its website, the foundation has spent 52 million USD on educational initiatives in 7000 primary schools and preschools. Over 1.5 million children have benefited through the foundation so far in the last 16 years.

Africa has reported more than 49,000 confirmed coronavirus positive cases with 16,315 recoveries so far. Federer’s contribution to the continent would certainly help many poor families to survive this pandemic. We hope more people contribute in any way possible to help vulnerable families during the global crisis.
