Roger Federer has been thwarted by his nemesis Rafael Nadal one too many times in his career. However, the Swiss looks to have a found a solution of late, to the persisting problem of Rafael Nadal. Roger Federer has not lost a single match against Rafael Nadal since 2014 and has won all of their recent meetings. With a rejuvenated and aggressive backhand, a shot that has been missing from his artillery in the past years, Roger Federer has turned things around against the Spaniard.

Roger Federer credited his new racquet for helping him out with his changes in his backhand, as he remembered the 2017 Australian Open finals, where he came back from a break down in the fifth set to capture the title. “I think with the new racquet I was able to swing through the backhand slightly, a bit more freely, but I did that the entire tournament you know“, said Roger Federer. “And I think the racquet allowed me to do that and I gained confidence”, he added.

“And I think Rafa with his lefty play challenges me that way”, continued Federer. “No one player will challenge my backhand the way Rafa does and I think that’s why people looked at this match as a very different match that I’ve played against Rafa in the past’’, said Roger Federer.

Federer and Nadal are drawn to meet in the semi-finals of the Australian Open this year, and both have looked clinical so far in their matches in Melbourne. Rafael Nadal will Tomas Berdych in his next match whereas Roger Federer, will face off against the Greek youngster Stefanos Tsitsipas in his next round. Both matches will be interesting to watch as Berdych and Tsitsipas have been showcasing some quality tennis this week in Melbourne. Let’s hope the pair do meet up in the tournament and provide the fans the treat they have been eagerly waiting for.
