Fans and players alike are preparing for one of the biggest events on the tennis calendar – the US Open. However, before we get to the hardcourt Grand Slam, there is another tournament players have to get through first, the Rogers Cup. Unfortunately, there are a handful of prominent names that are going to be absent from the event. Players such as Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Naomi Osaka will not be seen in Montreal.

Federer was the latest to pull out of the event as he still continues to recover from the knee injury. Djokovic, having played a number of tournaments, ending up injuring his shoulder towards the end of the Olympic Games.

Serena Williams and Naomi Osaka head the list of players missing

The Japanese star has pulled out of the event too. American legend Serena Williams is skipping the event owing to the ankle injury she sustained during the Wimbledon Championships. Moving further on, Austrian star Dominic Thiem will not be seen at the Masters 1000 event either.

Joining the list are World No. 1 Ashleigh Barty, Serena’s sister Venus Williams, as well as Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev.

Reflecting on the tournament, although there is a list of absentees, there are still many top players who will be fight it out for the ultimate prize – Rafael Nadal, Daniil Medvedev, Stefanos Tsitsipas. 

On the other hand, players like Aryna Sabalenka, Elina Svitolina, Garbine Muguruza will be seen competing against each other in the women’s draw. The tournament begins on August 7 and will end on August 15.
