World Number three, Roger Federer spoke about the youngest ever Wimbledon qualifier Cori Gauff. She will be facing one of the oldest players in the women’s draw, Venus Williams in the opening round of Wimbledon and Coco always dreamt about winning a record of Grand Slam titles like the Williams sisters have created.

“I’m super happy for her,” Roger Federer said. “I think it’s a great storyline. I hope they put them on a big court. I think that would be a great, wonderful experience for Coco and Venus anyway. It’s a great story. Coco is a nice girl, works really hard. I think she’s obviously got a wonderful future ahead of herself.”

Cori Gauff is represented by Federer’s agency, Team8, also she is accompanied by his agent. Like Roger Federer, even she is sponsored by the Italian food company, Barilla.  The French Open junior champion, Gauff shared a moment from her past, when Roger Federer advised her after she lost the Australian Open juniors.

The Swiss motivated her to get over with her loss and focus on her future matches by working on her shortcomings from Melbourne’s defeat. “I remember I lost first round Australian Open juniors, and we (Gauff and Federer) talked after, and he just told me to keep going, to keep working hard, and he shared some of his stories back when he was a junior,” Coco said.

By paying attention to those words from Roger Federer, she experienced a miracle happening in her career as she was declared a champion in the next major tournament. “And then the next tournament I played was French Open and I ended up winning it, maybe that had something to do with it but I mean, how could you not listen to the greatest of all time?” Gauff mentioned.

Venus Williams and Cori Gauff will be playing on the last match on Court Number one tomorrow at Wimbledon Championships 2019.
