Roger Federer -‘Qatar Should be Very Proud’

Roger Federer has often played the Exxon Mobil Open in Doha, before the Australian Open. Qatar has been selected as the host nation for the next world cup in the December of 2022. Federer said that it is a proud moment for the people of the nation to host a sporting event that attracts fans and players alike from all over the world.

“Obviously, the 2022 news, getting the World Cup, is obviously massive. This is not just some small tournament”, said Federer. “This is the major league of sporting events we have around the world. That’s why I think this country should be very proud of all the hard work, you know, the committee has put in. I’m sure it’s gonna be a wonderful World Cup.”

Federer also spoke about the nice memories he has had in the country. ‘I had a wonderful time there. Also have some friends here, which makes this stay obviously more comfortable’, said the Swiss maestro. ‘I spent a lot of time in the Middle East for practice reasons, and in Qatar once in February when the tournament was not held, just to come over here and practice and change a bit of a venue, experience a different way of life a little bit, just to change it up a bit of the normal routine I had,’ said Federer.

Speaking about good venues to play at Federer said that the O2 arena in London was one of the tournaments that was really good to play at. ‘I think the show’s nice here.Ovations we get are amazing. I can’t tell, but it seems like it’s standing ovations’, he said. ”That’s really nice as well. It just makes a great setting at the O2. I really enjoy it. The fans are super polite. They know why they’ve come here. We try to perform every day, make something special happen. That I’ve been able to play so many matches on center court over the years has been really nice for me”, he added.
