The 20-time Grand Slam champion, Roger Federer suffered an appalling defeat at US Open 2019 as the unseeded ATP player, Grigor Dimitrov knocked him out 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals of the New York major.

While approaching closer to his defeat, Federer took a medical time out and left the Arthur Ashe Stadium. Upon returning the Swiss legend could sustain himself to win two more games in the quarterfinal encounter after trailing behind by 4-0 in the final set. In the press conference, Roger Federer opened up about his injuries issues and he left the court to nurse his back.

Also before the match, he was in pain. “I just needed some treatment on my upper back, neck. Just needed to try to loosen it up, crack it and see if it was going to be better,” said Roger Federer. “But this is Grigor’s moment and not my body’s moment, so… It’s okay.”

Before the match, Federer canceled his training session pertaining to his back problems. “I had a little bit (of pain) this afternoon (Tuesday). That’s it. I was able to play. It’s okay. It’s how it goes. I tried my best. By it was not far not too bad to give up or anything,” Federer continued.

Despite playing some good tennis, Roger Federer is disappointed about not reaching the semifinals of the US Open 2019. “I’m just disappointed it’s over because I did feel like I was actually playing really well after a couple of rocky starts,” the five-time US Open champion added.

“It’s just a missed opportunity to some extent that you’re in the lead, you can get through, you have two days off after. I was playing with it (the back injury) the whole time, but I was able to play. It was looking good. But got to take the losses. They’re part of the game. Looking forward to family time and all that stuff, so… Life’s all right,” he said.

The 38-year-old, Federer was asked about the advent of his next Grand Slam title. “I don’t have the crystal ball. Do you?” he jested. “We never know. I hope so, of course. I think still it’s been a positive season. Disappointing now, but I’ll get back up, I’ll be all right.”

Before this match, Federer held a 7-0 win-loss record against Dimitrov and now, the Bulgarian establishes the first victory of his career against the Swiss maestro.  World Number 78, Dimitrov will meet the fifth seed, Daniil Medvedev in the semifinals of the US Open 2019.

“I was able to play. It’s okay. It’s how it goes. I tried my best. By far not too bad to give up or anything. Grigor was able to put me away. I fought with what I had. That’s it. So it’s okay,” he mentioned.
