Roger Federer Reveals Why He Made a Surprise Visit to Laver Cup 2021 in Boston

Few players are as renowned as Roger Federer has been over the years. The Swiss ace has been a true ambassador of tennis and has encouraged several youngsters to develop a liking for the beautiful sport.

Yesterday, Roger Federer surprised one and all by showing up at the TD Garden in Boston for the Laver Cup 2021. After revealing that he would end his season and would be requiring knee surgery, one would have never imagined him being present for this event.

On showing up, much to everyone’s surprise, Roger Federer stated, “I just felt like this is what I want to do… I’ve also seen a lot of friends who I’ve not seen for two years now. I wanted to experience it and be there and see them. So I decided like maybe 10 days ago.”

It was barely 10 days ago that Roger decided to be present in Boston. As it is his tournament, he felt the need to cheer Team Europe. On coming to Boston, he has met a few friends who he has not met for a good two years. He has also come along with his parents.

The 40-year-old further added, “I’m happy my parents could come, Severin, my coach and I’m just really all around happy to be here in Boston. I got a text from Stefanos saying where I am and that he’s missing me, he needs me on the team. I didn’t tell him yet I’m coming, that will be a surprise.”

Coming on to tennis, Federer has barely played any tennis this season. He was last seen at the Wimbledon Championships, where he suffered a straight-sets quarterfinal defeat. It will be interesting to see how he prepares for the upcoming season.
