Roger Federer – “Winning 8 Wimbledon Titles is Beyond Imagination”

Letting his humility speak for the umpteenth time, 20-time major champion Roger Federer had said that winning 8 titles at Wimbledon is beyond imagination and it would have been a satisfying career had he won only those eight titles at the Wimbledon Championships.

Roger, who is currently touring in South America to play exhibition matches along with Alexander Zverev was interviewed by TvC Sports and the Swiss Maestro revealed many details right from his childhood to the various rivalries he had over the years.

On being asked whether he would consider Wimbledon his backyard as he had so much success there, Roger said “Of-course at times it has felt like this and it still feels like it’s part of my home. For me to be able to do it 8 times, is a dream come true.”

During Wimbledon this year, Roger Federer had created another record to his name as he became the first singles player in Grand Slam history to record 100 match wins at a major. He achieved this feat by defeating Kei Nishikori in the quarter-finals,4-6,6-1,6-4,6-4.

His bid to win the 9th Wimbledon title was halted by Novak Djokovic, who came back from two Championship points down to clinch his 5th Wimbledon title. Roger currently has a staggering record of 101-13 at SW19 and still has a fair chance of winning it in 2020.

Coming back to the exhibition tour in South America, Roger had a match pitted against Juan Martin Del Potro but the latter withdrew after a setback in training. For the unknown, the Argentinian had injured his right patella at the Fever-Tree Championships this year and was looking ready to go after resting for a few months.

But, after a few hits, he had suffered a setback in his rehabilitation and said in a video, “Despite having been training hard all these days, I felt that the knee was not ready for such a high-level match against the best in history. You deserve a game of a very good level, of high quality and I am not in a position to move freely today. It has been a frustrating year in general. Enjoy seeing the best in Argentina.”

Alexander Zverev had replaced Juan Martin Del Potro in that exhibition match as the tour continues for till the 24th of this month. Both the players have been well received by the exciting fans as they came in huge numbers to witness Roger’s dexterity on-court.

Roger Federer will be starting his 2020 season with the Australian Open with the Hopman Cup being scrapped to give way to the inaugural ATP Cup. The Swiss had announced his decision of not participating in the ATP Cup in-order to spend more time with his family.
