A fiery quarterfinal encounter between Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev took place in Shanghai with Federer hurling with the chair umpire multiple times and later being handed a point penalty. The reporters in the post-match press conference asked the Swiss whether he was unhappy with the umpire’s decision.

Federer seemed uninterested with the question and simply ignored it. He said, “so you could write on Twitter, you mean? No, it would be nice to write something nice once also about the game. Next question.”

The Swiss legend received a point penalty for hitting the ball into the audience. It gave rise to a break point while Federer was serving with a 3-0 trail. “The penalty point was just something that happened today, it wasn‘t something that changed the outcome, I was behind in the result but won the game anyway, Zverev put me away today, not the umpire,” Federer said.

With Federer saving five match points in the second set the battle extended into the third set. It was a dramatic end as Sascha fended off three match points at 5-4 and later in the tiebreaker, he squandered two of them.

“At the end of the second set it became dramatic, I was very happy I could make it into the 3rd one could have guessed the momentum may have changed but, he was always a step ahead, his service never let him down this might have brought him the win, he played better,” Roger Federer added.

The next ATP stop for the World Number three, Federer will be on his home turf of Basel. The Swiss Indoors Basel will begin on October 19, 2019, and Roger Federer will play his first match after two or three days post the official commencement.

At the Shanghai Rolex Masters 2019, all the remaining contenders aged between 21 to 23 years and have they have lined-up of the semifinals. Daniil Medvedev will be playing Stefanos Tsitsipas in the first match on Saturday (9.30 am GMT) and then followed by Alexander Zverev and Matteo Berrettini’s match (not before 1 pm GMT).
