Roger Federer to Play Rafael Nadal in Cape Town

Roger Federer confirmed that he will be playing a charity match with Rafael Nadal in 2020 in Cape Town, South Africa.

In an interview with Vogue, Roger Federer revealed that Rafael Nadal will help him with his foundation as the two legends of the game will play a charity match at some point of the time in 2020.

Roger Federer was asked to say something about Rafael Nadal. He praised the Spaniard and said, “He is an intense guy on the court, such honest and open, off the court and he has got a heart of gold.”

The Swiss later confirmed that he will play a charity match with Nadal for his foundation. Roger Federer also thanked Rafael Nadal for supporting him with his foundation.

The 37-year-old continued, “He is also gonna help me with my foundation again, next year. We are going to try to break the record for most attendance in Cape Town, South Africa. I am so looking forward to it, so thank you, Rafa.”

Federer and Nadal have been placed in the same draw at the Wimbledon Championships 2019 and the two are projected to meet in the semifinals at the All England Lawn Tennis Club if they get that far.

The RFF has been particularly active for many years in South Africa’s Eastern Cape region where it supports charity projects. Federer personally has been to the Eastern Cape several times to have a look at the foundation’s work first hand.

The 37-year-old also has strong relationships with South Africa since his mother, Lynette Federer was born in Johannesburg. Roger Federer, therefore, holds dual citizenship of Switzerland and South Africa.

The Swiss Maestro is set to face the British star, Jay Clarke in the second round at SW19 on Thursday.
