20-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer‘s diet is enriched with proteins and carbohydrates and fats are adequately incorporated. He eats every 2-3 hours at scheduled times. Until the age of 14, Federer was a vegetarian and started taking meat at the tennis camps. 

Roger Federer’s diet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Federer begins his day with a carbohydrate-rich breakfast. He relishes homemade waffles with a fresh fruit compote. Along with that, the Swiss player takes fresh juice, coffee, or a vinegar shot. He also follows the similar breakfast before his morning matches. For lunch, Federer prefers having lean meat, whole grains, and complex carbs. For dinner, he usually prefers eating something light.

Roger Federer’s Diet during practice sessions and matches

During his practice sessions, Federer energizes himself with carbohydrate-rich snack bars and bananas which refuel him immediately once he runs out of fuel. While playing long matches, bananas are his only source of instant energy.

What does Roger Federer eat before matches?

Most of the time before his matches Federer consumes simple carbs and its usually a plate of pasta. “Two hours before every match, I eat pasta with light sauce. I have been doing it for 20 years.”

On his cheat days, Federer does treat himself with savories. “I am a lover of Italian, Japanese, and Indian restaurants,” he once said.

Also he is a sweet-tooth and he can’t resist ice creams and chocolates. “I like my ice cream, I like my chocolate. That’s my diet. I like my treats and I don’t feel bad about it. I can do it and play tennis at the same time.” Usually, Roger Federer prefers something sweet rather than savory.

Being a Swiss Federer enjoys taking diary products. He likes to eat fondue (a Swiss melted cheese dish served in a communal pot over a portable stove heated with a candle or spirit lamp, and eaten by dipping bread into the cheese using long-stemmed forks.) He also takes another melted cheese dish, raclette which is accompanied by meat, vegetables and potatoes.
