Swiss tennis star Roger Federer has done wonders in this sport. He has been dominating the scenes for close to two decades and is the proud winner of 20 Majors and was the first man to do so. Over the years, he has beaten some of the biggest names in the game.

However, there is an interesting fact with regard to his journey to achieving Grand Slam glory; Federer has never beaten a World No. 1 player en route to winning a Major. That’s right, the Swiss ace has come up against a top-ranked opponent on five occasions in a Grand Slam final, but was never able to register a win.

Roger Federer has a poor record against his arch-rivals in finals 

In those instances, a majority of those losses came against his arch-rivals, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. Overall, he has lost seven finals against these two greats.

Speaking of his rivals, Rafa has won seven finals out of 12 matches in which he has beaten the then World No. 1.

Djokovic has won just once in four attempts and the big Russian, Daniil Medvedev won his first Grand Slam against the World No. 1 from Serbia on Sunday. 

Reflecting on Federer’s season so far, he began his stint in Doha but lost in the initial rounds. After that, he was seen on the clay courts in Geneva but again lost early, in the opening round. He was next seen in Paris, competing at Roland Garros. Unfortunately, he pulled out before the fourth-round match, as he was lacking physical fitness.

At the Wimbledon Championships, he lost in the quarterfinal, which came as a huge shock to the tennis world. Since then, he has not been seen on a tennis court. He announced that he would be requiring another knee surgery and that he would be out of action for many months. We hope to see him back soon.
