

19-year-old Bianca Andreescu took on the 20-year-old, Sofia Kenin in the semifinals of her home-tournament, Rogers Cup 2019. The Canadian sensation who won her first main draw match at Rogers Cup this year defeated the American, 6-4, 7-6(5) in more than two hours and broke down into tears as she reached the finals in her home city. She became the first woman in 50 years to reach the finals of Rogers Cup.
Both of them, had an incredible run on the Toronto courts this year, as Kenin eliminated the top-seed, Ashleigh Barty and battled past Elina Svitolina to book her place in the semifinals. Andreescu took out Kiki Bertens and Karolina Pliskova to earn her ticket to the last four round.

Set One:
The women got on aboard with Bianca Andreescu opening the match with a full-house rooting for her. The young talents of WTA displayed some quality tennis in the opening set and neither of them came across break points until 3-2.

Two break chances were fended off by Andreescu, Sofia Kenin saved one of them with a massive service and another one with her baseline tennis. It was a prolonged game followed by challenges and Kenin landed up making a stronghold at 3-3.

This time it was Kenin creating two break chances at 4-4 with her baseline skills, but Andreescu’s net charging and ball placements aided her to maintain her lead in the opening set at 5-4 and Kenin staved off the break point conversion.

Bianca Andreescu held two break opportunities again, by focusing on every shot in the rally and adjusting herself to Kenin’s returns, the Canadian held the first break and the first set of the semifinal encounter.

Set Two:
The high-quality tennis continued in the second set. At 1-1, after tussling for a few minutes Sofia Kenin converted the second break chance for a 2-1 lead as Andreescu netted the ball. After being 30-love up on her serve, Andreescu swiftly broke back Kenin after winning the next four points and the counterbalanced the set at 2-2.

Kenin had bright chances to get hold of the next game, with the Canadian support resonating in the house the game was dragged into Bianca’s account. An expensive double fault at by Kenin gave rise to a break point, with her next return nudging through the net chord, Bianca Andreescu led by 4-2.
While serving for a place in the finals of Toronto’s WTA Premier Five event, Bianca Andreescu produced errors in her crucial service game and Kenin stayed in the semifinal at 5-4 and later leveled the set at 5-5.

After saving three match points, Kenin drove the encounter into the second set tiebreak on Toronto’s Centre Court. In the tiebreaker, the Canadian was leading and made to the finals of Rogers Cup 2019.

Healthy Bianca Back!
After her title win in Indian Wells this year, Bianca Andreescu’s tenure on the WTA Tour was teetering. A few months ago, her shoulder issues compelled her to withdraw from many tournaments and now her emotions are off the charts as she creates history in her home town.
