The Aussie is entering this event after an unimpressive performance in Washington last week. He lost in the opening round, which was a disappointing result for the defending champion, to say the least.

On the other hand, Reilly Opelka, too, suffered an early exit in Washington, losing to Australian player John Millman. In the week prior to the Citi Open, both players were competing in Atlanta.

Kyrgios lost in the second round whereas Opelka came as far as the quarterfinal, before losing to Taylor Fritz in three closely fought sets.
